Reasons to Give
Of all the avenues for supporting UC San Diego and the Division of Social Sciences, graduate fellowships are the most influential. This is because the best graduate students:

  • Attract top faculty. When deciding between faculty appointments, world-class scholars often select the university with the best graduate students.

  • Provide a high-quality workforce. UCSD relies on graduate students to keep the enormous day-to-day workload of a world-renowned research institution in motion. Many of these students also remain in the region after receiving their degree.

  • Evolve into our future teachers and leaders. Training and immersion in the environment of a great university such as UCSD produces scholars who make significant achievements and become the teachers, researchers and leaders of tomorrow.

  • Mentor undergraduates. As teaching assistants, graduate students help prepare undergraduates for competitive careers and often serve as mentors.

Yet despite a vital need for graduate students, it has never been more difficult for young people to make the enormous financial commitment necessary to fund a graduate education. Federal funding, a traditional source of support, has decreased steadily, while fees, especially for graduate students, have risen dramatically in recent years.

Please make a gift today. Your support for our stellar students will make a difference.
