Faculty may use extramural dollars to buy out 2 courses per year, at the rate of 1/3 of the participant.s annual salary.
The department will receive 100% of the released salary, of which a portion must be used to replace the participant's uncovered courses.
Participants in the course buy out must teach two courses during the year, at least one of which must be an undergraduate course (size and content to be determined by departmental needs).
Participants in the program should in no way reduce the service commitment of the faculty member. The faculty member must remain on campus for the duration of the buy-out, with the exception of standard leaves of absence within policy. Any exceptions require SVCAA approval.
This program may not be used in combination with a sabbatical leave.
Faculty may pay a portion of their academic year salary on extramural funds, and retain 100% of their released salary.
Compensation effort from extramural sources should not exceed 50% time in an academic year.
The released funds must be used by the faculty member in support of temporary research needs.
Participation in the program should in no way reduce the teaching and service commitment of the faculty member.
Effective July 1, 2000, you are delegated authority for academic leaves of absence within your Division/School, including requests for leaves with and without pay for eight calendar days to one year and sabbatical leaves.
You may redelegate to Department Chairs leaves with and without pay up to 10 service days, or 14 calendar days; if you choose not to do so, Department Chairs will continue to have authority to approve leaves with and without pay up to five service days, or seven calendar days. I will retain authority for requests for leaves of absence in excess of one year and exceptions to University and campus policies. Academic Personnel will continue to receive all General Campus requests for academic leaves over ten service days prior to your review. Requests for leaves for ten service days or less will be submitted by departments directly to you.
Academic Personnel staff remain available to assist you and to respond to questions regarding university and campus leave policies.
Leave requests (with and without pay) for 15 calendar days to one year and sabbatical requests are the Dean's authority.
Leave requests (with and without pay) up to ten service days, or 14 calendar days, are the Department Chairs' authority.
The Sr. Vice Chancellor retains authority for leave requests in excess of one year and exceptions to University and campus policies. Leave requests for Dean Drake's or the Sr. Vice Chancellor's approval should be routed through the Academic Personnel Unit in the Dean's Office via the Departmental AP Office.
