States and Societies Network

Who we are

The States and Societies Network of the Social Science History Association is made up of sociologists, political scientists, historians, and other scholars who are interested in the history of states, the development of the state as a social institution, and the relationships among forms of rule and other institutions in society. The network is methodologically pluralistic, including narrativists, comparativists, and area specialists, and scholars who practice both quantitative and qualitative approaches.

What we do

Our main activity as a network is convening a series of panels for the annual meetings of the SSHA. The 2007 meetings will be held in Chicago on November 15-18.

How to submit

Submissions are closed for 2007. But it's not too early to start thinking about a panel you'd like to organize for 2008!

How to contact us

E-mail, of course. The network representatives for 2007 are Kent Redding (kredding at uwm dot edu) and Isaac Martin (iwmartin at ucsd dot edu), who maintains this web site.
