Jacob K. Javits Fellowship
The program provides financial assistance to students of superior ability, as demonstrated by their achievements and exceptional promise, to undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) level in selected fields of the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Panels of experts appointed by the Javits Fellowship Board (Board) select fellows according to criteria established by the Board. Students must also demonstrate financial need by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in Humanistic Studies
The Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships in Humanistic Studies are designed to help exceptionally promising students prepare for careers of teaching and scholarship in humanistic disciplines. The Mellon Fellowship is a competitive award for first-year doctoral students. Fellows may take their awards to any accredited graduate program in the United States or Canada. For the year 2002, 85 Fellowships will be available. The Fellowship covers graduate tuition and required fees for the first year of graduate study and includes a stipend of $17,500. There have been more than 1,800 Fellows since the competition began in 1982.

Paul and Daisy Soros Felowships for New Americans
The purpose of The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans is to provide opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields and to partake of the American dream. Fellows must have shown potential in the fields for which they seek further education; the capacity for creativity, persistence and work; and the commitment to the values of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which protect the American dream. The Program is established in recognition of the contributions New Americans have made to American life and in gratitude for the opportunities the United States has afforded the donors and their family.
Each year the Fellow receives a maintenance grant of $20,000 (paid in two installments) and a tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the U.S. graduate program attended by the Fellow.

$1,200 grants in support of exploration

Educational exchanges that strengthen understanding

Hellenic
Times Scholarship Fund
For undergraduate and graduate students
of Greek descent, between the ages of 17

Humane
Studies Fellowships
For undergraduate and graduate students
interested in the classical liberal/libertarian
tradition of individual rights and market
economies. More than 100 fellowships up
to $12,000 are awarded annually. Deadline:
late December.
International
Dissertation Field Research Fellowships
Up to 50 fellowships to support social
scientists and humanists conducting dissertation
field research in all areas and regions
of the world.
IREX
Small Grants Fund for the Middle East
and North Africa
Grants between $2,500 and $10,000 for projects
to support civil society organizations,
education professionals, media, and journalists
in the Middle East and North Africa. Deadline:
June.
Joint
Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship
Regular Program
For individuals from World Bank member
countries to undertake graduate studies
at any university located in a World Bank
member country except their own. Suggested
fields of study: economics, public administration,
finance, planning, health, population,
agriculture, infrastructure, information
systems and aquatic resources (provided
that the focus of study is on public policy
aspects of these fields), environment and
natural resource management, education,
and other development-related subjects.

Josephine
de Karman Scholarships
$16,000 scholarship to support either
the final year of study for juniors or
for PhD candidates with ABD status.

Kate
Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship
Annual fellowship for advanced study
of Fine Arts in the U.S. or abroad, to
enhance professional standing or to finance
a special project. Preference for candidates
under 25 years. There are three fellowships
of $7,500 each in art, architecture or
music; an additional music fellowship for
$15,000; and up to three alternate awards
of up to $1,000 each.

Peace
Scholar Dissertation Fellowship
Supports doctoral dissertations that
explore the sources and nature of international
conflict, and strategies to prevent or
end conflict and to sustain peace. Citizens
of all countries are eligible, but must
be enrolled in an accredited college or
university in the United States.

The
Roothbert Fund Scholarship Program
Approximately 20 ($2,000-$3,000) awards
are offered to students in the U.S. in
need of financial aid to further their
education at the undergraduate or graduate
level.

Fellowships
